Research interests include: law and society in the United States and in other countries, particularly Thailand; injuries and social change in Thailand; and the significance of cultural practices and legal consciousness for the workings of law and legal institutions.

Research intersts include: Cognitive and functional properties of Japanese grammar; Lexical-semantic and psycholinguistic aspects of categorization in Japanese; and Japanese syntax in conversation.

Research interests include: Gender history; early modern South Asia; colonialism and modernization; historiography and historical memory in South Asia; and Modernization and culture in colonial princely India (Rajasthan).

Research interests include: Urban politics and administration; the history of Chinese family life; humor in history; and the place of non-U.S. history in American intellectual life.

Machiko Tomita, Occupational Therapy

Research interests include: the effectiveness of e-health to provide health support for self-management of chronic conditions among various geriatric populations such as patients with congestive heart failure, spinal cord injury, depression, and arthritis; and caregivers of persons with Alzheimer's disease.
